Yokohama, Japan – Chelsea advanced to the FIFA Club World Cup with a 3-1 defeat of Mexican side Monterrey at the International Stadium on Thursday.
The reigning European champions jumped out to an early lead thanks to Juan Mata's strike in the 17th minute.

Two minutes later, the Blues found themselves three goals up when Darvin Chavez turned the ball into his own net.
Aldo De Nigris salvaged a goal for Monterrey in the closing stages, but it was nothing more than a consolation goal.
