Chelsea advanced to the FIFA Club World Cup with a 3-1 defeat of Mexican side Monterrey at the International Stadium on Thursday.

The reigning European champions jumped out to an early lead thanks to Juan Mata's strike in the 17th minute.

Chelsea held the one-goal advantage until Fernando Torres scored in the first minute of second-half play to extend the club's lead.

Two minutes later, the Blues found themselves three goals up when Darvin Chavez turned the ball into his own net.

Aldo De Nigris salvaged a goal for Monterrey in the closing stages, but it was nothing more than a consolation goal.

Chelsea moves on to face Brazilian club Corinthians in the final, staged for Sunday, Dec. 19 at the International Stadium.
