Fulham brought an end to its seven-match winless skid on Monday with a 2-1 win over Newcastle at Craven Cottage.
Both sides were in desperate need of three points with the Magpies also struggling of late having lost four of their last five contests.
But it was Fulham that got off the mark first when Damien Duff dropped a ball off for Steve Sidwell inside the penalty area that he fired toward the net with a first-time shot.
The ball took a wicked deflection off of Newcastle defender Mike Williamson on its way to goal, and it left goalkeeper Tim Krul wrong-footed and unable to keep the ball out.
Both sides had shots cleared off the goal line before halftime, but Newcastle came out stronger in the second half and equalized in the 54th minute through Hatem Ben Arfa, whose shot was also deflected on its way past goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.
It took Fulham nine minutes to regain the lead and it came from a set piece as Duff once again played provider, this time floating a free kick into the area for Hugo Rodallega to head home.
Newcastle pressed for an equalizer, but the closest they came was 19 minutes from time when Fabricio Coloccini saw his curling effort strike the far post.
