Derick Beltran scored 23 points and Southern University forced 20 turnovers as the Jaguars defeated NAIA William Carey 77-50 Monday night.
Southern's defense kept the Crusaders (9-2) to just 29.8 percent (17 of 57) shooting from the field while accruing 13 steals and holding William Carey to six assists.
Beltran was 7-of-15 shooting and also pulled down six rebounds. Malcolm Miller had 16 points and Jameel Grace and Christopher Hyder each had seven assists as the Jaguars dished out 21 as a team.
Southern (3-5) led 18-2 after Beltran hit two free throws with 13:05 left in the first half, and William Carey never pulled closer than 11 points after that.
The Jaguars closed the first half on a 15-3 run and went into the break ahead 48-20.
The Crusaders got points from 11 different scorers as Daron Ball and Donzedrick Smith led with eight points each.
