The fourth bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao finally produced a no-doubt-about-it outcome.
A battered and bloody Marquez pulled off a stunning knockout of Pacquiao in the closing seconds of the sixth round Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The 39-year-old Mexican sent Pacquiao to the canvas with a right hand with one second left in the round. Pacquiao fell face down after absorbing the direct blow to the bridge of his nose and remained motionless for several minutes as a jubilant Marquez (55-6-1) celebrated the first definitive victory in a series that dates back to 2004.
The first fight ended in a draw, then Marquez went on to lose a split decision in 2008 and drop a majority decision in November 2011.
For the first time, Marquez felled Pacquiao (54-5-2) with a solid overhand right in the third round. But Pacquiao evened the knockdown count in round five and looked to finish Marquez, who was bleeding from the nose.
Marquez survived the 33-year-old Filipino's attack before scoring the knockout.
On the undercard, IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (33-3) retained his belt with a unanimous decision over Mercito Gesta (26-1-1).
