The Chicago Fire re-signed Costa Rican defender Gonzalo Segares to a multi-year deal Thursday.
The 30-year-old Segares was originally drafted by Chicago in 2005, but left to join Cypriot club Apollon Limassol on a free transfer in January 2010. He came back to Chicago in August 2010 to resume his MLS career.
Over eight seasons in MLS, Segares has 11 goals and 13 assists in 178 regular season appearances. He played 31 matches last season.
"I'm very happy to continue on as a Fire player," said Segares, who has played 19 times for Costa Rica. "Chicago is my second home and the Fire have been a big part of my life for a long time. I look forward to more success with the club in the future."
Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
