LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The 2020 European Championship will be played in several countries across the continent.
European soccer's governing body says a decision is expected in the spring of 2014 on how many cities and countries will host the 24-team tournament.
UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino calls the event a "Euro for Europe."
Infantino says the group's executive committee made the decision Thursday. UEFA President Michel Platini floated the possibility of such a tournament during Euro 2012 in June as "an idea I feel really passionate about."
