Dortmund, Germany – Julian Schieber scored in the second half as Borussia Dortmund edged Manchester City, 1-0, on Tuesday to finish unbeaten in the Champions League "Group of Death."
Dortmund had the top spot in the group clinched before the final matchday, but Schieber separated the teams at Signal Iduna Park with a 57th-minute strike as the German side secured a fourth win against two draws.
City was eliminated at the group for the second straight season, and failed to win a single match to finish at the foot of a group including Real Madrid and Ajax.
Real Madrid also previously secured its place in the knockout stage, and ended group play with a 4-1 win over Ajax. Ajax still advanced to the Europa League as the third-place team in the Group D standings.
Dortmund was superior to City, and the match-winner came 12 minutes after half when Jacob Blaszczykowski slipped a cross just behind two City players to the far post for Schieber to stab past goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Jose Maria Callejon scored twice for Real Madrid, which got its other goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka. Derk Boerrigter scored for Ajax.
In Group A, Ezequiel Lavezzi scored the match-winner in the 61st minute as PSG edged FC Porto, 2-1, to clinch the top spot.
Thiago Silva also scored for PSG, which entered the final day one point behind Porto for the top spot although both had already clinched knockout berths.
Dinamo Zagreb earned its first point and goal of the stage as Ivan Krstanovic scored five minutes into extra time of a 1-1 draw against Dynamo Kyiv, which had already sealed its Europa berth.
In Group B, Benedikt Howedes scored as Schalke earned a 1-1 tie at Montpellier to finish atop the standings. Arsenal finished second, as it wasted an early goal from Tomas Rosicky in a 2-1 loss to third-place Olympiacos.
In Group C, Duda scored twice as Malaga tied Anderlecht, 2-2, to wrap up group play without a loss, and Zenit secured a Europa berth with a 1-0 victory at AC Milan, which finished second behind Malaga to reach the knockout stage.
