Melvin Morgan grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds on his way to a double-double Thursday night, while Chris Hansen and Tomas Sanchez led Idaho State in scoring as the Bengals got their first win of the season, downing Montana Western, 70-52.
Hansen put up 20 points on 5 of 9 shooting, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. Sanchez scored 17 points. He also did some damage from the stripe, where he went 8 for 8.
Morgan added 13 points and had three steals for the Bengals (1-5).
Montana Western, a NAIA school, got off to a rough start. The Bulldogs scored just six points during the first 9 minutes and were down 36-17 at halftime.
During the second half, the Bulldogs pulled to within 13 with 9 minutes to go. But the Bengals closed the game strong.
Tyler Miller led Montana Western with 17 points. Maazin Butler added 14.
