UEFA suspended Shakhtar Donetsk forward Luiz Adriano for a "violation of the principles of conduct" Tuesday and also ordered him to perform one day of "community football service."

Adriano received the punishment after he intercepted a pass intended to be for Nordsjaelland following a stoppage in play, and scored in a Champions League match last week.

After intercepting the pass by a teammate in an unwritten fair play rule meant to return the ball to Nordsjaelland after an injury stoppage, Adriano scored as both his opponents and teammates looked on stunned.

Nordsjaelland players confronted Adriano after the goal, but there was no way for the referee could disallow the score. Adriano scored two more goals as his side secured a knockout berth in the tournament with a 5-2 win.

Adriano will miss the final group match against Juventus, which needs at least a draw to secure its place in the knockout stage.
