Chicago Bears guard Lance Louis will miss the remainder of the season because of a knee injury, a big blow to a struggling offensive line.

The team placed him on injured reserve on Monday, a day after he was hurt in the 28-10 victory over Minnesota.

Louis was injured early in the third quarter on what Bears coach Lovie Smith says was an unnecessary hit by the Vikings' Jared Allen. It happened after Chicago's Brandon Marshall tipped a pass from Jay Cutler.

The Vikings' Antoine Winfield picked it off, and as he returned the interception, Allen launched himself at Louis for a blindside hit to the head. His left leg buckled as he crashed to the ground.
