Eli Carter scored a season-high 25 points and teammate Myles Mack hit a crucial 3-point basket with less than two minutes remaining as Rutgers fended off UNC Greensboro 87-80 on Sunday afternoon.

Rutgers (4-1) won its fourth game in a row.

Mack's 3 gave the Scarlet Knights an 80-73 edge and he followed that with a steal and driving layup. Mack, a sophomore guard, finished with a career-best 24 points, hitting 9 of 11 shots from the field.

Derrell Armstrong scored 25 points for UNC Greensboro (1-4), which lost its third consecutive game and remained winless against Division I opponents. Trevis Simpson added 16 points for the Spartans.

Rutgers shot 57.4 percent (31 of 54) for the game, but UNC Greensboro held a 40-30 rebounding advantage in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
