Atletico hammers Sevilla

Atletico Madrid kept pace with Barcelona at the top of La Liga on Sunday as the club secured a 4-0 win at the Vicente Calderon against Sevilla.

The turning point in the game arrived after 20 minutes when Sevilla's Federico Fazio brought down Koke inside the penalty area, handing Atletico a spot kick and earning Fazio and red card.

Radamel Falcao stepped up and buried the penalty kick, while an own goal from Sevilla's Emir Spahic in the 40th minute doubled Atletico's lead.

Koke made it 3-0 to the hosts just before halftime when he scored on a superb volley from Diego Costa's pass, while Ivan Rakitic was also sent off for Sevilla before Miranda capped the scoring in stoppage time.

The win is Atletico's 11th in the past 12 games and keeps the club within three points of Barcelona.

Barcelona 4, Levante 0

Valencia, Spain - Barcelona won for the sixth straight time in La Liga on Sunday as Andres Iniesta scored one goal and assisted on three more in a 4-0 Barca win at Levante.

Following a scoreless first half, Barca netted all four of its goals in the span of 18 minutes to coast home to the comfortable win.

The opener came in the 47th minute when Iniesta played Lionel Messi into the area, allowing the Argentina international to slot home his 18th league goal.

Messi scored again five minutes later when Iniesta got to the end line and pulled the ball back for a simple finish, while the Spaniard found the net himself shortly after that with a powerful shot that went in off the underside of the crossbar.

Iniesta capped his devastating display a little after the hour mark when he played a clever ball to Cesc Fabregas which the former Arsenal man cooly finished off.

Getafe 2, Espanyol 0

Barcelona, Spain - Espanyol remained rooted to the bottom of La Liga on Sunday after sustaining a 2-0 home defeat to Getafe.

The loss is the third straight setback for the Barcelona side, which fell behind in the 17th minute to a left-footed strike from Getafe's Pedro Leon.

Espanyol enjoyed more of the possession and the better chances after the break but the hosts failed to take advantage and were punished in stoppage time when Mane put the result out of reach.

Diego Castro set up the goal with a nice ball that Mane finished off with his left foot, beating goalkeeper Cristian Alvarez inside the left post.

Athletic Bilbao 1, Deportivo 1

Bilbao, Spain - Deportivo moved out of the bottom three on Sunday thanks to a 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames.

Bilbao found itself in front midway through the opening frame when Markel Susaeta's cross was converted by Oscar de Marcos.

But Deportivo was able to avoid a third successive defeat when Abel Aguilar headed home a driven cross from Juan Carlos Valeron in the 52nd minute.

Athletic was the more dangerous side over the final 40 minutes, but an equalizer never materialized.
