Real Betis piled more misery on Real Madrid's disappointing La Liga campaign on Saturday, earning a 1-0 win over the reigning champions at the Benito Villamarin.

Real Madrid managed to drop just 14 points in its 38-game championship run last season, but Jose Mourinho's men already have dropped 13 points through 13 league contests this term.

That sub par streak has left Real Madrid eight points adrift of first-place Barcelona, and the Catalans have a chance to go 11 points clear of their title-rivals with a win over Levante on Sunday.

Real Betis went in front just 16 minutes into Saturday's affair as Benat Etxebarria collected a pass from the left flank, slipped past Sami Khedira and fired a shot past Iker Casillas from the top of the box.

Karim Benzema thought he had brought visiting Real Madrid level in the 37th minute, but his goal was called back with the French striker being ruled offside from the free kick.

Real Betis staved off a great deal of pressure from the visitors in the second half while still managing to create its own scoring opportunities, but Etxebarria's strike held up as the game-winner.

Betis snaps a two-game losing skid to go level with Malaga on 22 points apiece.

Malaga 4, Valencia 0

Malaga, Spain - Malaga got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion, laying a 4-0 thumping on Valencia at the Estadio La Rosaleda on Saturday.

Javier Portillo put Malaga in front in the eighth minute, but the home side exploded for three goals in the final 13 minutes as Javier Saviola, Roque Santa Cruz and Isco put the match beyond reach for the Murcielagos, who were reduced to 10 men in the 84th minute after Adil Rami was sent off.

Malaga jumps ahead of Levante and into fourth place with 22 points, four points ahead of Valencia.

Rayo Vallecano 2, Mallorca 0

Madrid, Spain - Rayo Vallecano left it late but claimed a 2-0 victory over Mallorca at the Teresa Rivero on Saturday thanks to two goals inside the final three minutes.

The two sides looked destined for a scoreless draw, but Leo struck in the 87th minute before Andrija Delibasic sealed the win in the 90th minute.

Rayo climbs to seventh place with three wins from its last four league games, improving to 19 points on the season. Mallorca, winless in its last eight, stays put on 12 points.

Valladolid 1, Granada 0
