Newly-promoted Pescara named former defender Cristiano Bergodi its new coach Tuesday after Giovanni Stroppa stepped down as manager of the Serie A club.
Stroppa guided Pescara to just a 3-8-2 record through 13 matches, and left his post after a 1-0 loss to Siena over the weekend. Pescara dropped three of its last four matches under Stroppa.
The 48-year-old Bergodi played at Pescara from 1984-89 and also enjoyed a long stint with Lazio from 1989-96. He began coaching in 2002 and has led CFR Cluj, Rapid Bucharest, and Steaua Bucharest, among others.
Bergodi last coached Italian second-division club Modena last year.
