Charlotte, NC – NASCAR driver Danica Patrick revealed on her Facebook page on Tuesday that she and her husband, Paul Hospenthal, are divorcing after a seven-year marriage.
"I am sad to inform my fans that after 7 years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage," Patrick wrote. "This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward."
Hospenthal, 47, and Patrick, 30, were married in 2005 in Arizona. He is a physical therapist, and the two met while he was treating her for a non-racing injury. They have no children.
Patrick, a former IndyCar Series competitor, concluded her first full-season in the Nationwide Series as well as a 10-race schedule in the Sprint Cup Series this year. She will drive a full schedule in Sprint Cup for Stewart- Haas Racing next season. Patrick received this year's most popular driver award in Nationwide during Monday night's season-ending awards ceremony for the series in Miami Beach, Fla.
She ended the 2012 Nationwide season 10th in points, making her the highest- finishing female driver in any one of NASCAR's three national touring series.
