Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has revealed that midfielder Yohan Cabaye could be out of action until January because of a groin problem.
Cabaye sustained the injury while on international duty, but it could be worse than initially believed, possibly keeping the Frenchman off the field for a few months.
"He might possibly have to have a little surgery on that groin," Pardew told the Evening Chronicle. "It could be we run all the way to the end of January before I have my first team to pick from."
Pardew is already without Ryan Taylor, Dan Gosling and Haris Vuckic due to long-term injuries, and the absence of Cabaye will take a key playmaker out of the midfield.
In 10 league starts for the Magpies this season, Cabaye has scored two goals and chipped in one assist.
