Sunderland won on the road in the English Premiership for the first this season, as Steven Fletcher, Carlos Cuellar and Stephane Sessegnon scored in a 3-1 Sunday win over 10-man Fulham.

Fulham had Brede Hangeland sent off on the half-hour mark, and Fletcher scored his sixth goal this season and Cuellar and Sessegnon added with their first of the campaign for Sunderland.

Sunderland, which last won away from home in league play in February, snapped a five-game winless skid to climb to 15th place.

Mladen Petric scored for Fulham, which had its five-game undefeated run ended. Fulham is in ninth place.

Hangeland was sent off after a sliding tackle in midfield, a questionable call that left Fulham down a man for the final hour.

Fletcher finished to the bottom left five minutes after half and, after Fulham pulled the goal back through Petric in the 62nd, Cuellar scored in the 65th on a well-place header to restore the lead and Sessegnon sealed the victory with a perfect finish from 20 yards to the right post in the 70th.
