The New England Patriots activated tight end Visanthe Shiancoe to the active roster Saturday.
Shiancoe was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return on Sept. 5 with a hamstring injury.
Shiancoe, who signed with the Patriots as a free agent in July, had not missed a game over his nine-year career before sitting out the first nine weeks of this season.
He spent the last five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, catching 36 balls for 409 yards and three touchdowns last year.
Over 144 career games for the Giants and Vikings, Shiancoe has 243 catches for 2,677 yards and 27 touchdowns.
