CHARLESTON, S.C. – Mike Groselle scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in The Citadel's 84-76 win over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday.
Marshall Harris III added 19 points and Matt Van Scyoc posted 18 points and seven rebounds for The Citadel, which outrebounded VMI 39-33.
The teams entered halftime tied 34-34. After exchanging buckets, VMI took a 50-48 advantage behind D.J. Covington's jump shot with 14:16 left in the half.
But VMI wouldn't see the lead again, as Harris III hit a 3-pointer to spark a 16-4 run and give the Bulldogs a 64-54 lead.
VMI closed the gap to 72-70 with 3:56 left to play but Groselle made a jumper and Harris III scored six points down the stretch to seal the win.
Brian Brown led VMI with 22 points and Covington had 15, but the Keydets committed 24 fouls, sending the Bulldogs to the line for 28 free throw attempts.
