Nelson Piquet Jr. won the pole for tonight’s Lucas Oil 150 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
Piquet’s lap of 134.439 miles per hour in the No. 30 Turner Motorsports Chevrolet was good enough to give the second-generation Brazilian racer his fourth career pole in 50 Truck Series starts.
“I thought we could have had a little bigger margin, but I’m really happy,” said Piquet, who has three top-three finishes in the last four Truck Series races.
Ryan Blaney, the 18-year-old rookie rising star, ran 134.363 mph to put the No. 29 Brad Keselowski-owned Ram on the outside of Row 1.
Brian Scott qualified the No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota in the third spot at 134.238 mph.
Cale Gale had a lap of 134.218 mph, good enough for fourth in the No. 33 Eddie Sharp Racing Chevrolet.
Completing the top five was Matt Crafton in the first of the ThorSport Racing Toyotas.
Kyle Larson was sixth, followed by Parker Kligerman, Timothy Peters, points leader James Buescher and Ron Hornaday Jr.
SPEED’s coverage of the Lucas Oil 150 continues with The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Setup at 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by the race at 8 p.m.
Tonight’s event is the penultimate race of the season. Buescher holds a lead of 15 points over Ty Dillon, who qualified 21st, and 25 points on Peters.
