Reds left-handed reliever Bill Bray and infielder Wilson Valdez have refused outright assignments to the minor leagues, choosing to become free agents.

Bray missed most of last season because of injuries, a problem throughout his seven-year career with Cincinnati. He was on the disabled list from April 24 until June 21 with a groin injury, then from July 31 through the rest of the season with a bad back. He appeared in 14 games and gave up five runs in 8 2-3 innings.

The Reds got the 34-year-old Valdez in a trade with Philadelphia last January for left-hander Jeremy Horst. He started 44 games at shortstop, third base, second base and center field. Valdez batted .206 in 77 games overall with no homers, 15 RBIs and four errors.
