Steelers' Brown unlikely to face Chiefs

Pittsburgh, PA – Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stated on Tuesday that wide receiver Antonio Brown is doubtful to play in the team's upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to a left ankle sprain he sustained this past weekend.

Tomlin also revealed that safety Troy Polamalu is expected to miss Monday's matchup with the Chiefs as the All-Pro continues to recover from a torn right calf that has limited him to just two games this season.

Brown suffered his injury during the first quarter of Sunday's 24-20 victory over the New York Giants and did not return, with Tomlin declaring his status to be "very much in doubt" for this week.

"We'll leave the door ajar, but usually those aren't positive things, particularly for someone who earns a living the way he earns a living, which is his short-area quickness and things of that nature," said Tomlin of Brown's ailment.

Brown leads Pittsburgh with 42 catches this season and has totaled 499 receiving yards with one touchdown through the first eight games. The third- year pro posted career highs of 69 receptions and 1,108 yards during a breakout campaign in 2011.

Emmanuel Sanders replaced Brown as Pittsburgh's No. 2 receiver and primary punt returner against the Giants and performed well, catching a 4-yard touchdown pass and taking a punt back 63 yards in the win.

Polamalu, who has not played since Week 5 and has sat out six of the Steelers' last seven contests, is being targeted to return for the club's Nov. 18 clash against rival Baltimore.

Tomlin does expect running back Jonathan Dwyer to play against the Chiefs after missing last week's tilt with a quadriceps strain. Backfield mate Rashard Mendenhall, out three straight games with an Achilles problem, was termed questionable to go.

Dwyer had rushed for over 100 yards in back-to-back wins over Cincinnati and Washington before being inactive on Sunday.

In other team injury news, offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert will likely miss a fourth straight outing with an ankle sprain, while rookie running back/return specialist Chris Rainey is uncertain for Monday's game after injuring his ribs against the Giants.
