Game 2 of the World Series has featured a pitcher's duel through the early stages, with the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants engaged in a 0-0 deadlock after three innings of play at AT&T Park.

Giants hurler Madison Bumgarner has struck out five batters while yielding one hit in his first start since Oct. 14. Counterpart Doug Fister has allowed just two hits and a walk for Detroit.

Both teams threatened but failed to score in the second inning. Detroit's Prince Fielder was thrown out at the plate while attempting to come home on a Delmon Young double in the Tigers' half, while the Giants loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame before Bumgarner popped up for the final out.

Fister got out of the jam despite being struck on the side of the head by a line drive off the bat of Gregor Blanco. The Detroit right-hander appeared unfazed by the blow and retired Bumgarner after issuing a walk to Brandon Crawford.
