The Carolina Panthers placed linebacker Jon Beason on injured reserve on Wednesday.

Through the first four weeks, Beason had recorded 28 tackles and an interception, but has missed the past two contests due to a knee injury.

Since signing a five-year, $50 million contract prior to the 2011 season, Beason has played in just five games. His 2011 campaign ended after suffering a torn left Achilles in the first game of the season.

In a corresponding roster move, the Panthers have signed cornerback James Dockery.
