The San Diego Chargers placed kicker Nate Kaeding on injured reserve Monday.
Kaeding appeared in San Diego's first three games this season, connecting on all seven of his field goal attempts and six extra points, but then suffered a groin injury and has not played since.
The two-time Pro Bowler has spent his entire nine-year career with the Chargers after the team drafted him in the third round of the 2004 draft.
He has made 180-of-207 career field goal attempts and 349-of-351 extra points.
The team plans to release him as soon as he is healthy.
The Chargers signed wide receiver Danario Alexander to fill the roster spot.
Alexander appeared in 10 games (five starts) with the St. Louis Rams last season, catching 26 balls for 431 yards and two touchdowns.
He has 46 career receptions for 737 yards and three scores over 18 career games (seven starts) with the Rams.
San Diego also signed wide receiver Kashif Moore to the practice squad and released wide receiver Marques Clark from the practice squad on Monday.
