PSG downs Reims to remain unbeaten in Ligue 1

Salvatore Sirigu stopped a penalty and Kevin Gameiro scored as PSG maintained its unbeaten start in Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win over promoted Reims on Saturday at the Parc des Princes.

Sirigu saved a penalty from Diego five minutes before half, and Gameiro sealed a fifth win from six domestic matches for the Paris side in the 65th minute.

PSG moved to the top of the standings on 19 points, ahead of idle Marseille on goal differential. Marseille visits Troyes on Sunday. Reims had its six-match unbeaten streak snapped and is five off the pace in seventh.

Nice 1, St Etienne 1

Nice, France - Dario Cvitanich missed a penalty kick five minutes from time as St Etienne was able to escape with a 1-1 tie against Nice on Saturday at Stade Municipal du Ray in Ligue 1.

Eric Bautheac handed Nice a lead before half, but Brandao pulled St Etienne on level terms in the 75th. Cvitanich had a chance to seal three points for Nice, but could not convert from the spot.

Nice settled for its sixth draw this season and is 14th in the standings. St Etienne extended its unbeaten streak to four matches and sits 10th.

Toulouse 4, Evian 0

Annecy, France - Emmanuel Riviere scored twice as Toulouse rolled to a 4-0 win over Evian on Saturday at the Parc des Sports to move within three points of first place in Ligue 1.

Franck Tabanou and Daniel Braathen also scored for Toulouse, which sits three points behind PSG and Marseille in third place. Evian lost for the fifth time this season and is in 17th place.

Rennes 2, Montpellier 1

Rennes, France - Jean Makoun and Mevlut Erding scored as Rennes added to the early-season woes for Montpellier on Saturday with a 2-1 win at the Stade de la Route de Lorient in Ligue 1.

Rennes won its third straight during a four-match undefeated streak and sits ninth. Montpellier, which won Ligue 1 last season, lost for the fifth time in the new season and is 16th.

Valenciennes 6, Lorient 1

Valenciennes, France - Anthony Le Tallec and Vincent Aboubakar both scored a pair of goals as Valenciennes smashed nine-man Lorient, 6-1, on Saturday at the Stade du Hainaut in Ligue 1.

Valenciennes has just one loss in last five matches and sits just four points off the top. Lorient suffered its first loss of the season and sits five off the pace in eighth.

Nancy 1, Sochaux 1

Nancy, France - Sebastien Roudet scored in the second half as Sochaux earned a 1-1 draw against Nancy on Saturday at the Stade Marcel Picot in Ligue 1 to end a two-game losing streak in a battle of bottom-three sides.

Sebastien Puygrenier scored for Nancy, which had Djamel Bakar red carded after the hour mark but managed the draw to end a six-game losing streak.
