Detroit, MI – Detroit Tigers outfielder Delmon Young was named Most Valuable Player of the 2012 American League Championship Series after putting forth a record-setting performance in his team's four-game sweep of the New York Yankees.
Young became the first player in postseason history to record a game-winning RBI in four consecutive games after chipping in a run-scoring single in the first inning of Detroit's 8-1 rout of the Yankees in Thursday's Game 4.
The former No. 1 overall draft pick also delivered the go-ahead double in the 12th inning of Saturday's 6-4 triumph in Game 1, knocked in a run in Detroit's 3-0 victory in Sunday's Game 2, then smacked a solo homer to help the Tigers edge New York by a 2-1 count in Tuesday's Game 3.
For the series, Young batted .353 (6-for-17) with two homers and six RBI.
Young, whose seven career postseason home runs are the most in Tigers' history, joins Placido Polanco (2006) and Kirk Gibson (1984) as the only ALCS MVP recipients in franchise annals.
