Suggs' status still in question

Baltimore, MD – Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs has returned to practice after recovering from a torn Achilles, but his status for Sunday's game against Houston is still in question.

Suggs had reportedly indicated his desire to return to game action right away, but said Thursday he was still unsure when he would be ready to play.

An ESPN report said Suggs was expecting to play Sunday, but last year's NFL Defensive Player of the Year met with media members Thursday and said that was not the case.

"If it didn't come from Coach Harbaugh or myself, it's not really a credible source," said Suggs, who practiced Wednesday on a limited basis for the first time this season. "We're going to make the decision as a group, whether it would be better for me to sit it out or suit up."

The Baltimore Sun cited a source Wednesday as saying he "would be shocked if (Suggs) played" Sunday.

Suggs suffered his injury in late April and underwent surgery in early May. He was placed on the physically unable to perform list for the start of the season.

The Ravens and Texans share the top record in the AFC at 5-1 heading into Sunday's contest.

Baltimore may want to keep Suggs out of Sunday's contest because the team also has a bye the following week, which would give him more time to practice and get into game shape.

Suggs had a banner 2011 season for the Ravens, posting 14 sacks with 70 tackles, seven forced fumbles and a pair of interceptions.

The Ravens have had numerous injuries to their stellar defense, as star middle linebacker Ray Lewis is expected to be sidelined until at least late December because of a torn triceps, while cornerback Lardarius Webb was placed on season-ending injured reserve earlier this week because of a torn ACL.

Safety Ed Reed also told a Baltimore radio station earlier this week that he has been playing with a torn labrum in his shoulder, but said it was nothing overly serious and the Ravens have yet to include him on an injury report this week.
