Dolgopolov loses in Moscow

Top seed Alexandr Dolgopolov was a second-round upset victim Thursday at the Kremlin Cup tennis event.

French qualifier Edouard Roger-Vasselin saved four match points before ousting the Ukrainian Dolgopolov 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6) on the indoor surface at Olympic Stadium. Dolgopolov struck 11 aces in a losing effort.

Second-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi avoided an upset by beating Dutchman Igor Sijsling 7-5, 6-2.

In other action involving seeds, No. 4 Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci handled Italian Flavio Cipolla 6-4, 6-1 and Poland's Jerzy Janowicz upended No. 7 Argentine Carlos Berlocq 6-3, 6-4.

One other second-round affair saw 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo Karlovic fire 16 aces in tackling Russian Alex Bogomolov Jr. 7-6 (13-11), 6-4.

Friday's quarterfinals in Moscow will pit Seppi against eighth-seeded Japanese Tatsuma Ito; Bellucci versus Janowicz; Czech Lukas Rosol against Tunisian Malek Jaziri; and Roger-Vasselin versus Karlovic.

This week's champion will take home $121,520.
