Former top-10 star Andrea Petkovic was a come-from behind first-round winner Wednesday at the Luxembourg Open tennis event.

The German Petkovic, who has missed a majority of the 2012 season because of injuries, overcame Spanish qualifier Garbine Muguruza 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 at CK Sportcenter Kockelscheuer.

Petkovic will meet third-seeded former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia on Thursday.

Another former top-10 woman reached the second round, as Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova came back to best Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Up next for the 2007 Luxembourg runner-up Hantuchova will be Belgian Kirsten Flipkens.

A pair of women reached the quarterfinals in Luxembourg, as Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez Lino handled Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova 6-2, 6-3 and Czech Lucie Hradecka whipped German qualifier Annika Beck 6-1, 6-1.

In other opening-round action on Day 3, British lucky-loser Anne Keothavong beat Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens 6-2, 6-2 and Ksenia Pervak got past qualifier fellow Russian Vera Dushevina 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).

In some more second-round play on Thursday, top-seeded Italian Roberta Vinci will meet Keothavong, second-seeded German Julia Goerges will battle Romanian Monica Niculescu, and ninth-seeded German Mona Barthel will be opposed by former top-ranked American Venus Williams. Vinci titled here in 2010. Goerges was last week's runner-up to current world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in Linz, Austria and lost to Vinci in the Luxembourg finale two years ago. Niculescu who was last year's Luxembourg runner-up to Azarenka.

The 2012 winner of this $220,000 tournament will earn $37,000.
