Miami, FL – Shawn Stefani was never threatened on Sunday as he cruised to victory at the Miccosukee Championship.
Stefani closed with a 3-under 68 to end his second Web.com Tour title at 15- under-par 269. He also won the Midwest Classic earlier this year.
"To be honest, I was not worried about the lead or protecting the lead when I started. You expect someone to come out and play well and Alistair (Presnell) did just that," Stefani stated. "He played a really good round of golf today. Give him some credit for putting some pressure on me. I just wanted to focus on playing well and experience what it was like playing with a lead in the final round."
Presnell, who tied for third last week, carded a 4-under 67 to take second at minus-10 at Miccosukee Golf & Country Club.
Russell Henley, the Chiquita Classic winner, carded a 68 to end alone in third at 6-under 278. Steve LeBrun (71) took fourth at minus-5.
Kevin Tway (71) and Christopher DeForest (73) shared fifth at 4-under 280.
Stefani stumbled to a bogey at the first, but atoned for that error with a birdie on No. 3. He picked up another birdie on the par-5 fifth, but gave that shot right back as he bogeyed the sixth.
The 30-year-old fought back with a birdie on the seventh to move to 13-under, where he was five clear of the field.
Presnell made a move with birdies at eight and nine, but was still three back. The duo posted matching birdies on the par-4 14th, but Presnell dropped four off the pace as he stumbled to a bogey at the 16th.
"I was thinking the way I started in my mind that it would have been good enough that I might have a chance, but he had made a couple of good saves and a couple of nice birdies and all in all he was really steady all day," Presnell said of Stefani.
Stefani parred three straight holes from the 15th before closing the tournament in style as he birdied the last. He earned enough money to secure his PGA Tour card for 2013.
"Getting my PGA Tour card means the world to me. I've worked very hard to make it to the tour and it will be a dream come true for me to play on tour," Stefan said. "It's the best tour in the world."
Presnell parred the final two to end five back.
The Australian made a charge early on with three birdies in a 4-hole span from the second. His momentum was halted as he stumbled to a bogey on the sixth. he birdied eight and nine, but played the back side in even-par.
NOTES: Stefani earned $108,000 for the victory and became the fourth player with two wins this season on the Web.com Tour...Ben Kohles, Casey Wittenberg and Luke Guthrie are the other 2-time winners this year...Tag Ridings withdrew prior to the round to be with his wife, who gave birth to their third child on Sunday morning...Andy Bare withdrew during the final round due to injury.
