Adam Morgan had two interceptions to lead a strong defensive effort as Virginia Military Institute held off Presbyterian 17-7 Saturday in their Big South Conference opener.
Morgan had interceptions on the last Presbyterian drive of the first half and the first of the second.
The Keydets (2-3) forced four turnovers, two to snuff out the final Blue Hose drives.
After Presbyterian scored with 7:41 remaining, the Blue Hose had first down at the VMI 33. Shawn Chapman sacked backup quarterback Kaleb Griffin, who fumbled with 2:06 remaining.
On Presbyterian's last drive, Logan Staib intercepted Griffin at the VMI 10.
The Blue Hose, who had only 45 yards total offense in the first half, missed two straight third-quarter field goals with the score 10-0.
VMI's Eric Kordenbrock threw for 208 yards and a 29-yard TD to Dexter Bridge, and Jabari Turner had a career-high 71 yards with a 1-yard TD run.
