The Philadelphia Phillies moved quickly to replace coaches dismissed after the season concluded Wednesday, adding three to Charlie Manuel's staff for 2013, including Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg.
Sandberg, a minor league manager in the Phillies' organization for the past six years, will be the third base coach and infield instructor for parent club next year. He posted a record of 439-409-1 during his tenure in the club's system.
Also promoted from the minor league system were Steve Henderson and Rod Nichols. Henderson will be the Phillies' hitting coach next year, while Nichols will handle the role of bullpen coach.
The Phillies also announced that pitching coach Rich Dubee has been retained, while Mick Billmeyer has been promoted from bullpen coach to catching coach. Juan Samuel, the third base coach the past two years, has been offered a spot as the team's first base coach.
On Wednesday, the Phillies declined to renew the contracts of first base coach Sam Perlozzo, bench coach Pete Mackanin and hitting coach Greg Gross.
