The Kansas City Royals fired hitting coach Kevin Seitzer on Thursday.
The move comes just one day after the Royals finished the 2012 season with a 72-90 record.
Seitzer, who was an All-Star third baseman with the Royals in 1987, joined Kansas City's staff prior to the 2009 season. He also played for Milwaukee, Oakland and Cleveland, and was Arizona's hitting coach in the first half of the 2007 season.
The remainder of the coaching staff -- bench coach Chino Cadahia, pitching coach Dave Eiland, first base coach Rusty Kuntz and third base coach Eddie Rodriguez -- will return next season.
