Boston, MA – The Boston Red Sox acquired Rubby De La Rosa and Jerry Sands from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, completing August's blockbuster trade between the two clubs.
On August 25, the Red Sox dealt Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Punto to the Dodgers in exchange for James Loney, Ivan De Jesus Jr. and Allen Webster.
De La Rosa, a right-handed pitcher, made one relief appearance for the Dodgers this season after missing time recovering from Tommy John surgery. He compiled a 1-0 record with a 2.08 earned run average in six minor league outings between the Rookie-level Arizona League Dodgers, High-A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Chattanooga.
The 23-year-old De La Rosa made his major league debut with Los Angeles in 2011, posting a 4-5 record with a 3.71 ERA in 13 games (10 starts) before undergoing the procedure on Aug. 9.
Sands, who has seen time at first base and the outfield, spent the majority of the 2012 campaign with Triple-A Albuquerque, where he batted .296 with 26 home runs and 107 RBI.
The 25-year-old Sands appeared in nine games with the Dodgers this season after making his big league debut with the club last year. Over 70 career games in the majors, Sands has hit .244 and driven in 27 runs.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox designated catcher Guillermo Quiroz for assignment.
