Cluj-Napoca, Romania (Sports Network) - Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney make a perfect pair for Manchester United.

Van Persie scored two goals, both off assists from Rooney, as United came back from an early deficit to top CFR Cluj, 2-1, in Group H of the Champions League on Tuesday.

Pantelis Kapetanos scored in the 14th minute as CFR Cluj took an early lead at the Stadionul Dr. Constantin Radulescu, but Van Persie scored the equalizer in the 29th with a ball off his shoulder and added the game-winner in the 49th.

Van Persie and Rooney started together for the first time.

United took control of Group H with its second win from as many games, and has a three-point cushion over both Cluj and Braga. Galatasaray is fourth.

The visit to Transylvania did not start well for United, which fell behind for the sixth time in nine games. Modou Sougou sent a cross into the penalty area, and Kapetanos directed the ball from the near side to the far post.

After a sluggish 1-0 win over Galatasaray in its group opener, United was much better after falling behind as Rooney and Van Persie showed how dangerous they could be together.

Rooney floated a free kick into the penalty area from the left, and Van Persie misjudged the ball but got a lucky bounce off his shoulder as his shot looped over Cluj goalkeeper Mario Felgueiras and under the crossbar.

Van Persie, signed this summer from Arsenal, notched his 20th Champions League goal four minutes after half off a Rooney pass from the right wing. Van Persie met the pass and, from eight yards out, turned the ball into the lower corner.

Also in Group H, Ruben Micael and Alan scored as Braga edged Galatasaray, 2-0, on the road to pick up its first points of the stage.

In Group E, Juan Mata scored twice as Chelsea beat Nordsjaelland, 4-0, for its first win of the group stage. Mata scored in the 33rd and 82nd minutes, and David Luiz and Ramires provided the other goals.

Chelsea tied Juventus in its group opener, and has four points from two games to sit atop the standings.

Leonardo Bonucci answered an early goal from Alex Teixeira as Juventus secured a 1-1 home tie against Shakhtar Donetsk in the group's other game. Shakhtar is second in the group on four points, followed by Juve with two.

In Group G, Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas scored as Barcelona beat Benfica, 2-0, but lost defender Carles Puyol to what appeared to be a significant arm injury.

Sanchez scored in the first half and Fabregas early in the second half, but it was marred by the injury to Puyol, who fell on his arm - which gave way as he braced himself. He was carted off the field.

Barcelona is comfortably atop the standings on six points, followed by Celtic, which won on the road in the European Cup or Champions League for the first time since 1986, 3-2 over Spartak Moscow.

Georgios Samaras scored the match-winner in the 90th minute and Celtic was the beneficiary of an own goal and a red card that left Spartak down to 10 men.

Group F produced the big upset of the day as Aleksandr Pavlov, Vitali Rodionov and Renan Bressan scored to give BATE a 3-1 win over Bayern Munich.

BATE led by two goals into stoppage time, when Franck Ribery scored for Bayern but Bressan scored later in extra time to seal the win for the Belarus side.

Bayern had won its first nine matches in all competitions this season. BATE is first in the group on six points, followed by Bayern.

Valencia moved even on points with Bayern but stayed third because of its loss to Bayern in the teams' group opener, despite a 2-0 victory over Lille behind two goals from Jonas.
