Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Neil Walker is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a lower-back injury.
Walker, who hit .280 with 14 homers and 69 RBI in 129 games, last played Monday against the New York Mets.
The Pirates went 4-12 in the 16 games Walker didn't start due to lower back tightness from Aug. 27 to Sept. 14. He went just 7-for-26 in eight games this month.
Pittsburgh entered Friday's play against Cincinnati four games below the .500 mark and is closing in on a 20th straight season with a losing record.
