Real Salt Lake has signed midfielder David Viana on a free transfer, it announced Tuesday.
Viana, 20, joined Real Salt Lake on trial last week and signed a deal ahead of the roster freeze deadline on Friday. He has played for Portugal at various youth levels, and was last with the reserve side of Atletico Madrid.
"I'm very excited to join Real Salt Lake," he said. "It's a great opportunity and I feel really good about getting to work with these coaches and players."
Viana will be added to the roster pending the receipt of his work visa and his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
"We're excited to add a talented young player like David to the team," said RSL general manager Garth Lagerwey. "We believe he'll be a valuable addition to our roster long-term and think he can give us another attacking option."
Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
