Marlins 1B Lee leaves early

Miami Marlins first baseman Carlos Lee left Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds in the bottom of the fifth inning with a neck strain.

With runners on first and second and two outs in the fifth, Lee stroked a single into right field to knock in a run.

While Lee was caught in a rundown between first and second, Marlins shortstop Jose Reyes alertly took home.

Lee attempted to go to second on the throw to the plate, but was thrown out by Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo. Arroyo's throw was high, forcing shortstop Wilson Valdez to jump for the ball.

Valdez came down on top of Lee as he applied the tag and the Marlins' slugger was unable to continue.

Gil Velazquez came on to play third, while Greg Dobbs moved over to first for Lee, who entered the game hitting .261 with three home runs and 39 RBI over 63 games with the Marlins after being acquired from the Houston Astros on July 4.
