Top-ranked Roger Federer overpowered 159th-ranked Thiemo de Bakker 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to give Switzerland a 1-0 lead over the Netherlands in their Davis Cup World Group playoff on Friday.

The match was played on a temporary outdoor clay court in Amsterdam in wet and windy conditions that made serving tough for both players.
