Tampa, FL – Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeGarrette Blount will undergo an MRI on his neck and back, general manager Mark Dominik said Wednesday.
Blount, who was injured in the second quarter of Sunday's 16-10 win over the Carolina Panthers, did not practice Wednesday.
There had been speculation that Blount suffered a concussion, but Dominik dismissed the idea.
"I can categorically confirm that it has nothing to do with a concussion whatsoever," the general manager said. "However, we're going to do our due diligence on our players to make sure that player safety is number one, the most important thing."
Tampa Bay visits the New York Giants on Sunday and Blount's status is uncertain.
The University of Oregon product started 14 games in 2011 and ran for 781 yards and five touchdowns but was supplanted by rookie Doug Martin during the offseason and had just three carries for eight yards against the Panthers.
