Patriots put TE Shiancoe on IR

The New England Patriots signed tight end Michael Hoomanawanui and placed tight end Visanthe Shiancoe on injured reserve with a designation to return.

Shiancoe, who signed with the Patriots as a free agent in July, has not missed a game over his nine-year career. He spent the last five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, catching 36 balls for 409 yards and three touchdowns last year.

His most productive season came in 2009 when he recorded 56 receptions for 566 yards and 11 scores.

Over 144 career games for the Giants and Vikings, Shiancoe has 243 catches for 2,677 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Hoomanawanui spent the last two seasons with the St. Louis Rams. In 16 career games, he has 20 receptions for 229 yards and three touchdowns.

New England also signed wide receiver Kerry Taylor and offensive lineman Jeremiah Warren to the practice squad and released fullback Eric Ketttani and wide receiver Sam Kirkland from the practice squad.
