Facing hours-long cleanup and resurfacing of the drag strip and the threat of more rain, NHRA officials on Monday postponed the final two days of the U.S. Nationals until Sept. 8-9.

The final two rounds of qualifying, rained out on Sunday, will be held on Sept. 8, along with the $100,000 Funny Car NHRA Traxxas Nitro Shootout bonus race. Final eliminations will be held on Sept. 9.

"The persistent weather has affected the racing surface, and we have chosen to make the tough decision to postpone the race until next weekend," said Graham Light, the NHRA's senior vice president of racing operations.

The decision gives new life to teams that had not qualified before Sunday's day-long rains washed out the final two rounds of qualifying.
