City cruises to 3-1 win over QPR

Yaya Toure, Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez scored as Manchester City defeated QPR, 3-1, on Saturday at Etihad Stadium for its second win of the young English Premier League season.

Defending champion City was a bit lucky to escape its match at Liverpool with a 2-2 tie last weekend, but Toure scored in the first half and, after QPR tied through Bobby Zamora on the hour, Dzeko and Tevez put the match away.

Making his first start of the season, Dzeko restored City's lead less than two minutes after Zamora struck, and Tevez notched his third goal in as many games to seal the victory.

Dzeko turned a header inside the near post in the 61st minute to put City in complete control. Tevez followed in extra time when he deflected a Dzeko shot inside the left post.

City has seven points from three games, just two points off the pace of three- win Chelsea. QPR, which made a number of offseason additions, has yet to find its groove as it suffered its second loss against one draw this season.

Tottenham 1, Norwich City 1

London, England - Tottenham's miserable start to the English Premier League season continued Saturday, when Robert Snodgrass scored five minutes from time to give Norwich City a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

Spurs are left with just two points from three games as they settled for their second straight home draw. Tottenham tied West Bromwich, 1-1, last week at its London home.

Coupled with a 2-1 loss at Newcastle to start the season, coach Andre Villas- Boas will be under pressure during the upcoming international break to get his new signings - including American Clint forward Dempsey - on track.

Dempsey did not play Saturday, one day after he joined from Fulham, but former U.S. goalie Brad Friedel made it clear who the No. 1 goalkeeper at the club is right now.

Tottenham also signed France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on Friday, but Friedel was excellent with a few fine saves, and recent addition Moussa Dembele scored in the 67th minute to position Spurs for their first win.

But Snodgrass converted through a crowded area in the 85th as Norwich, which played the final few minutes up a man after Tom Huddlestone was sent off, got its second point of the season.

Swansea City 2, Sunderland 2

Swansea, Wales - Steven Fletcher scored twice in his Sunderland debut, leading his new club to a 2-2 draw against Swansea City on Saturday at Liberty Stadium in the English Premier League.

Fletcher joined Sunderland this week from relegated Wolverhampton before the end of the transfer window, and scored twice late in the opening half to help end a perfect start to the season for Swansea.

Swansea was one of the most impressive teams in the league through two weeks, posting a 5-0 win at QPR and a 3-0 win over West Ham.

Fletcher scored the first goal this season against Swansea five minutes before halftime and, after Wayne Routledge answered in first-half extra time, notched his second deep in the added time in the first half. The lengthy stoppage time was because of an injury to Swansea defender Neil Taylor, who fractured his ankle just 16 minutes into the match.

Swansea preserved its unbeaten start when Michu scored his fourth goal of the young season in the 66th minute. Chico was sent off six minutes later, and his side did well to hold onto the draw at home.

While Swansea is on seven points from three matches, Sunderland moved to five points from three games with its first win after two straight draws to start the season.

West Ham 3, Fulham 0

London, England - Kevin Nolan scored in the opening minute to spark a three- goal first half and West Ham cruised to a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday at Upton Park for its second win through three games in the English Premiership.

Newly-signed English striker Andy Carroll helped set up the opening goal when he won a header in midfield to Ricardo Vaz Te, who slipped a pass to Nolan for a finish to the bottom right.

Carroll, acquired on loan from Liverpool on Friday, had a strong debut ruined by a hamstring injury midway through the second half.

Fulham debuted its new striker, Dimitar Berbatov, to open the second half, but he failed to make much of an impact in his first game since leaving Manchester United on Friday.

Winston Reid and Matthew Taylor also scored for West Ham, which lost its match last week at Swansea City, but is unbeaten at home. The Hammers defeated Aston Villa, 1-0, in their season opener.

Fulham, which also lost striker Clint Dempsey on deadline day, lost its second straight on the road following a 5-0 home win against Norwich City to open the season.

West Bromwich 2, Everton 0

West Bromwich, England - Shane Long and Gareth McAuley scored in the second half as West Bromwich ended a perfect start to the season for Everton with a 2-0 win Saturday at The Hawthorns to preserve its own unbeaten start.

Everton started the season with two straight wins and was unbeaten in 11 in a row dating back to last campaign, but West Brom added to its opening-day win over Liverpool with another impressive home result.

Long converted a cross from Peter Odemwingie to open the scoring in the 65th, and McAuley headed in the second goal eight minutes from time to seal a solid home win.

While West Brom moved to seven points from three matches, two off the pace of first-place Chelsea, Everton suffered its first defeat since March 24 against Swansea City to remain three off the pace.

Wigan 2, Stoke City 2

Wigan, England - Peter Crouch scored 15 minutes from time as Stoke City earned its third consecutive draw to start the English Premier League season, 2-2, on Saturday against Wigan at DW Stadium.

Wigan has a road win over Southampton to its credit from last week, and was on course for its first home win of the young season after Shaun Maloney scored a penalty just four minutes into the match against Stoke.

Even after Jonathan Walters equalized from the spot before half for Stoke, the hosts were back in front through Franco Di just three minutes after half. This time the lead disappeared again, as Crouch headed in a cross from Jonathan Walters in the 75th minute.

Wigan lost its home opener to Chelsea and has just one home point to show from its first two matches at DW.
