Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian is expected to be sidelined until at least January after undergoing surgery on his right wrist Friday.
Bogosian had a chronic ligament tear repaired during a procedure at the Cleveland Clinic. The Jets said the recovery time is typically between four and six months.
"This wrist has been an issue which has troubled him for the past couple of seasons dating back to his time in Atlanta and forced him to miss games with the Jets last season," said Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff in a statement Friday. "After resuming his on-ice training earlier this month, the wrist problem flared up again to the point surgery was deemed the best option."
Bogosian, 22, registered five goals and 25 assists in 65 games last season.
"While we are disappointed Zach will be out for an extended period of time, we look forward to getting him to Winnipeg to begin his rehab with our training staff and getting him back on the ice as soon as possible," Cheveldayoff added.
The third overall pick in the 2008 draft, Bogosian has compiled 29 goals and 89 points in 264 career games with Atlanta/Winnipeg.
