The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday that the team has waived 17 players to reach the NFL's required 53-man roster limit, while terminating the contracts of two vested veterans and placing two players on injured reserve.

Nose tackle Amon Gordon and linebacker Leon Williams were both released, with defensive ends Brandon Bair and Jerome Long, defensive backs Mikail Baker, Chandler Fenner and Terrance Parks, wide receivers Josh Bellamy, Junior Hemingway and Jamar Newsome, center Rob Bruggeman, fullback Patrick DiMarco, guards Darryl Harris, Lucas Patterson and Rich Ranglin, outside linebacker Gabe Miller, offensive tackle David Mims and safeties Neiko Thorpe and Donald Washington all being placed on waivers.

Rookie defensive back De'Quan Menzie, a fifth-round pick by the Chiefs in the 2012 draft, and undrafted rookie Alex Tanney were both put on injured reserve.

Gordon played in all 16 games and started twice for Kansas City in 2011, recording 23 tackles and two sacks. The 30-year-old owns six career starts and has been a member of six teams since entering the NFL in 2004.

Washington was Kansas City's fourth-round selection in the 2009 draft and appeared in 12 games with three starts last season, making 25 tackles with two passes defensed.

Long and Hemingway were both members of the Chiefs' 2012 draft class, with the former taken in the sixth round out of San Diego State and Hemingway, a Michigan product, selected in the seventh round.
