Giants activate P Mota

The San Francisco Giants activated pitcher Guillermo Mota off the MLB restricted list on Tuesday.

Mota was suspended 100 games in early May after testing positive for Clenbuterol, which is on the list of substances that violate MLB's joint drug prevention and treatment program.

It was the second time the right-hander was banned for a performance-enhancing substance after he received a 50-game suspension on Nov. 1, 2006.

The 14-year veteran has made nine appearances with the Giants this season, recording an 0-1 record with a 5.06 earned run average in 10 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.

To make room for Mota on the roster, the Giants placed pitcher Jeremy Affeldt on the paternity leave list.

Affeldt has appeared in 49 games this season, pitching to a 1-1 record with a 2.92 ERA and three saves.
