Manchester, England – It took Robin van Persie less than 10 minutes to score in his Manchester United debut on Saturday as the Red Devils bounced back from a season-opening loss to down Fulham, 3-2, at Old Trafford.
Damien Duff struck an early blow for Fulham when he scored in the first three minutes, but Van Persie answered by scoring from a Patrice Evra cross to level the match.
United took over the rest of the first half and fellow summer signing Shinji Kagawa also opened his United account in the 35th minute after Tom Cleverley's shot was stopped by goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, leaving the Japan international with a simple tap in.
And Rafael added a rare goal of his own before halftime as he arrived at the back post to nod home Ashley Young's cross in the 41st minute.
United looked to be in control but an own goal from Nemanja Vidic midway through the second half set up an interesting finish as Vidic redirected a cross from Matthew Briggs into his own net.
But goalkeeper David De Gea helped United hold on for the win as he denied Bryan Ruiz on Fulham's final attack of the match.
Chelsea 2, Newcastle 0
London, England - Chelsea made it three wins from three games to start the new Premier League season on Saturday as the Blues claimed a 2-0 triumph over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
Eden Hazard continued his impressive start at Chelsea by scoring from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute after Fernando Torres was tripped inside the box.
And those two players were instrumental in Chelsea adding a second goal shortly before halftime as Hazard set up a first-time shot for Torres at the edge of the penalty area that the striker dispatched into the top corner of the net.
Chelsea has outscored the opposition 8-2 in its first three games and looks formidable in attack with Hazard having a hand in almost every Chelsea goal so far, while Torres appears to be finding his form with a goal in each of the last two games.
Swansea City 3, West Ham 0
Swansea, Wales - Swansea City continued its flying start to the new campaign on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 win over West Ham on Saturday at the Liberty Stadium.
After a 5-0 victory over QPR to start the season, the Swans turned in another excellent performance as goals from Angel Rangel and Michu in the first 30 minutes put the hosts on their way to another big win.
Nathan Dyer was at his creative best and he combined with Wayne Routledge to set up a second-half tally for Danny Graham, while West Ham's best chance was an effort from Carlton Cole which was cleared off the goal line.
Swansea has now outscored its first two opponents 8-0, while West Ham suffered its first loss after opening the season with a win over Aston Villa.
Everton 3, Aston Villa 1
Birmingham, England - Everton's strong start to the season continued on Saturday with a convincing 3-1 road victory against Aston Villa.
After a home win against Manchester United on Monday, the Toffees followed up that big effort with another good performance at Villa Park, going in front in the opening three minutes courtesy of Steven Pienaar.
Marouane Fellaini tallied the lone goal against United, and he found the net again on Saturday with a header in the 31st minute that Villa goalkeeper Shay Given should have kept out.
Nikica Jelavic capped a dominating first half for Everton with a goal in the 44th minute, while Villa's Ciaran Clark was sent off in the 58th for a professional foul.
Karim El Ahmadi was able to pull a goal back for Villa 15 minutes from time, but the early signs are not good for new manager Paul Lambert and his team.
Norwich City 1, QPR 1
Norwich, England - Norwich City and QPR both sustained 5-0 defeats on the opening weekend of the season, but the two sides were able to take a point away from their 1-1 draw at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Norwich started brightly with Simeon Jackson putting the Canaries on top after 11 minutes as he got on the other end of Anthony Pilkington's cross to head home the first goal.
But QPR came back to level the contest within 10 minutes after Djibril Cisse drew a penalty kick. The forward picked himself up and stepped to the spot, only for goalkeeper John Ruddy to save his weak effort. However, Bobby Zamora reacted first to score on the rebound.
Norwich had the best chance to grab all three points in the second half, but Russell Martin's looping header was denied by the crossbar.
Wigan 2, Southampton 0
Southampton, England - Second-half goals from Franco Di Santo and Arouna Kone propelled Wigan to a 2-0 win over Southampton at St Mary's Stadium on Saturday, giving the Latics their first win of the season.
Wigan owes a lot of credit to goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi, who was tested on numerous occasions but was able to keep the Saints off the scoreboard.
And the visitors found the breakthrough early in the second half when Shaun Maloney played Di Santo in on goal for a composed finish from the Argentinian striker.
Southampton nearly equalized through Jos Hooiveld, whose header struck the crossbar, but Kone put the result away four minutes from time when he stole the ball from defender Jose Fonte and beat goalkeeper Kelvin Davis.
Tottenham 1, West Bromwich 1
London, England - Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas was denied his first win at the club by James Morrison's stoppage-time equalizer as Spurs had to settle for a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich on Saturday at White Hart Lane.
Villas-Boas and his team looked on course for the win when Benoit Assou-Ekotto smashed home a deflected half-volley in the 74th minute after the home side squandered a number of chances to take the lead.
But West Brom pressed hard for the tying goal in the final minutes and nearly had it when Assou-Ekotto needed to clear a header from Gareth McAuley off the goal line.
William Gallas made another goal-line clearance for Tottenham as the match entered stoppage time, but Morrison swept home the equalizer just seconds later to snatch a point.
