Chelsea signed Spanish Olympic defender Cesar Azpilicueta from Marseille on Friday on a two-year deal.

Azpilicueta, 22, appeared in one match at the recent Olympics for Spain, which failed to win a match. A regular on numerous youth international teams, he has yet to earn a senior cap. He first played for Osasuna from 2007-09, and joined Marseille in 2010.

"Azpilicueta will give us cover at right back. It gives us more options for the future. His signing gives us competition for positions. We'll see who will be first choice," Chelsea coach Roberto Di Matteo said.

Azpilicueta played 30 Ligue 1 matches and eight Champions League matches last season for Marseille. He joins Chelsea on an undisclosed fee.
